“Bossy” is getting a lot of press lately. Does it discourage leadership in girls? Should we, as Sheryl Sandberg and the Girl Scouts suggest, ban the word?
We at Domestic Feminist partnered with SheKnows.com to find out what “bossy” really means to girls today. We interviewed a bunch of 8- and 9-year-old girls and let THEM give US the scoop.
Watch the video to see what we found!
We encourage you to ask the girls in your life about the word “bossy” and share their response. We love how SheKnows puts it: “Whatever the words, we should be equipping girls with the tools to cope with whatever stands in the way of their dreams and goals. Join the movement and create your own #BossyIs video.”
You can use the questions we asked, or think of your own:
- What does bossy mean to you?
- What would you do if someone called you bossy?
- How is being a leader different from being bossy?
- Can both boys and girls be bossy?
- What do you want to be when you grow up?
Share their responses on social media using the #BossyIs hashtag. We can’t wait to hear what they say!
